Prime Minister Modi wraps up two-day China visit

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi wrapped up his two-day visit to China with both the countries underlining the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in all areas of their border region in the larger interest of the overall development of bilateral relations.The two neighbouring Asian giants resolved to seek a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement of the vexed boundary question.

At the end, both the leaders expressed their support for the work of the Special Representatives on the India-China Boundary Question and urged them to intensify their efforts to seek a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement.

Day one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day informal summit ended with the some classic Bollywood tunes. Prime Minister Modi spoke of the bollywood connect when he defined the strength of Indo-China ties.

On day two both leaders took a long walk by Wuhan’s iconic East Lake in the morning. They continued deliberations from where they left off at President Xi’s dinner. The two leaders also agreed to issue “strategic guidance” to their militaries to strengthen communications and to build trust and understanding.

After the walk the talk followed a Naav (Boat) pe charcha. The two leaders took a boat ride on a traditional Chinese wooden boat sporting a pagoda. Wuhan is a city of fresh water lakes along the banks of the Yangtze River. The east Lake is a major tourist attraction here.

Day two was reminiscent of Prime Minister Modi’s unique style of hospitality. In 2014 he hosted President Xi in Ahmedabad along the Sabarmati water front creating an informal atmosphere that allows candid exchange of thoughts and ideas. 

A traditional tea ceremony awaited the leaders on the lake side. Tea remains a central piece in Asian cultures, especially in China where it first originated. India and China share a historical tea connect too. Prime Minister Modi shared some lighter moments with President Xi perhaps recalling the days when as a young boy he sold tea at a railway station Vadnagar

The Chai pe charcha continued as the two leaders sat down over a cup of tea. Prime Minister Modi was seen pouring over a document deep in conversation with President Xi. The geo-startegic importance of this meet became evident when in a move that could upset Pakistan, PM Modi and Chinese President Xi agreed to undertake a joint India-China economic project in Afghanistan.

According to sources, the understanding was reached between the two leaders during the two-day informal summit. The leaders of two Asian giants held six meeting in 24 hours discussing trade, tourism, people to people connect and other regional and global issues  agreeing to strengthen mutual relations in days to come. That multiple aspects of bilateral ties were discussed over the two days became evident with India and China identifying  terrorism as a major global problem. 

From the Bollywood tunes to tri-colour Menu card with a picture of the Indian national bird – peacock was designed for the private lunch hosted for Prime Minister Modi. The personal attention paid by President Xi to small details says it all. A fresh chapater has been scripted in India-China ties with Prime Minister Modi and President Xi leading from the front.
