5 teachers, 4 children killed in road accident in Udaipur

‘Victims were going for a school picnic in overloaded car’

Udaipur : A school picnic program turned into a tragedy when one of the car in which students and teachers were travelling, hit a dumper leading to death of nine persons including 4 students and five teachers. The mishap happened on the Salumber-Jaisamand road on Saturday morning when students and staff of the Moral Academy school were on their way to picnic at Jaisamand Lake. The accident happened near Kherad village when the overloaded car hit a dumper approaching from front. 

The school principal Preksha Choudhary resident of Jhunjhunu was driving her new car which was carrying 7 teachers and 4 students. According to police the road construction was in progress and hence the road was quite narrow with many potholes. Perhaps the driver lost control of the car which collided with the heavy vehicle carrying gravels and stones for construction.

” The victims were identified as Upendra Singh, Gauri and Lakshya Yadav who were the students of the school while Lakshya’s mother Saroj,  Monika Khateek,  Santosh Singh and Geeta Meghwal were the teachers who were killed on the spot. ” SHO Shailendra Singh informed. Two teachers and a child  were seriously injured who were taken to hospital.  The child was serious who later succumbed to his injuries in hospital in Udaipur later evening.  

The school staff had taken the children to picnic in two cars and one of the car was quite ahead while the second one which met with the accident was the personal car of the Principal herself which she had recently purchased and the picnic was organised to celebrate the occasion,  sources said. Hundreds of people had gathered at the spot and people struggled hard to pull out the victims from the car which had been badly smashed. Commutation remained affected for hours till the bodies were pulled out and moved to hospital.
