In Uttar Pradesh alone, at least 42 people have died and at least 53 were injured due to high velocity wind and storm. State Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath ordered government officials to rush to affected areas to expedite rescue and relief work besides assuring all possible help.
Dust storms also hit many other parts of the country. In Andhra Pradesh, 12 persons died due to lightning and thunderstorm in Srikakulam district.
In West Bengal, at least 14 people died in storm related incidents. While one person lost his life in Uttarakhand.
In Delhi, 2 person died due to storm while 11 persons were injured due to storm. Flights and Metro services were affected too. Over 70 flights were diverted due to the thunderstorm from Delhi airport, while another 20 domestic and international flights were delayed due to the bad weather. However after weather cleared, Delhi airport Runway functioned normally.
President, PM Modi condole thunderstorms deaths
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Naremdra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in weather related incidents. the President in a tweet said, “Sad to hear of loss of lives due to rain and thunderstorms in different parts of the country. Condolences to those bereaved. Thoughts with fellow citizens who have been affected, especially little children.”
PM Modi in his tweet message said that he was ‘Saddened by the loss of lives due to storms in some parts of the country. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured. PM also asked officials to provide all possible assistance to those affected.
