Rajya Sabha member Harshwardhan Singh, MLA Devendra Katara, Aaspur MLA Gopichand Meena, Zila Pramukh Madhavlal, Municipal Council chairman K.K Gupta and many others were present at the occasion. “In July there were a total of 1 lakh 7 thousand toilets in the district and we took it as a challenge and a sanitation mission and were determined to achieve the ODF target. With the help of the representatives, officials and activists , 1 lakh 79 thousand 468 toilets were constructed in a record time of 3 months” Dungarpur Collector Rajendra Bhatt informed. Bhatt expressed gratitude towards the grass root workers including the Anganbadi and health workers who moved door to door sensitizing people on the importance of toilets at home.
“ With its location as a tough terrain, it was difficult to motivate people to build toilets as most of the settlements are scattered and located on hilly areas. However, the integrated efforts from every quarters have paid off well” Bhatt said. The officer said the movement would continue for next 6 months to take up the follow up activities to ensure people are making use of the toilets. The district administration has also initiated screening of film ‘Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’ at every gram panchayat level so that people understand the significance of loos, sanitation and hygiene.
