Udaipur : In a major breakthrough, police has busted the gang which executed the biggest highway loot in Udaipur. Four men have been arrested who were part of the gang which had in the wee hours of June 23, held men at gunpoint and fled with 470 kilograms of silver and 1.5 kilo gold ornaments near Tidi at the Ahmedabad-Udaipur highway. The victims were carrying agents who transported jewelry from Rajkot to jewelers in Agra and earned commissions for it.
“We had constituted special teams to nab the dacoits and were intensely searching for them. On Monday evening, we were tipped about the car which these robbers had used to chase the victims and thus we arrested four men identified as Heera Gurjar, Raju Khatik, Laluram Ravat and Puran Gurjar all residents of Udaipur. We have seized 230 kilograms of silver from their possession” Udaipur SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal told Udaipur Kiran. The victims Somdutt Kushwaha, resident of Agra, his son Yogesh and brother-in-law Rakesh were in the business of transporting ornaments for last 10 years and made frequent trips between Agra and Rajkot via Udaipur every month.
“These men even had a rented house at Rajkot since they had to go there often and hence some locals knew about their profession. They knew that the trio carried bulk quantity of ornaments between the two cities and hence had made a plan to loot them” Goyal said. The four men who were arrested here have confessed to the police that 5 to 6 persons in Rajkot were involved in the loot and the rest of the silver was with them. The accused were produced before the court which gave them in police remand.
Clue from Toll Plaza cameras
The police had sought CCTV footages from Paduna toll plaza, restaurants and petrol pumps. It was noted that only one of the car that had paid for a return journey trip the previous night, hadn’t crossed the plaza in the stipulated time. Cops took out the registration details of the car and found that the suspects had borrowed it for few days from the owner who wasn’t aware of their loot plan. Check points had been laid to search the car which was seen at Debari crossing on Monday and thus the gang members were caught.
