Pratap’s concern for agriculture is one domain, largely ignored- Arvind Singh 

’42 nd Agri-Universities Vice Chancellors’ Convention begin’

Udaipur : Arvind Singh Mewar of the royal household said Maharana Pratap is often seen in an unidimensional way. His continued warfare against the Mughal and Haldighati battle has remained in popular imagination, however his concern for agriculture and agricultural practices is one domain that had been ignored. Arvind Singh was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 42 nd Agri Universities Vice Chancellors’ Convention. The event is themed around “Globalization of Agricultural Education: Role and Responsibilities of Indian Agricultural

Universities”. Speaking on the occassion Prof UmaShankar Sharma, V-C of Maharana Pratap University for Agriculture and Technology said the agricultural sector is getting more complex due to globalization, impact of climate change, entry of corporate sector in agriculture value-chain and expanding demand for processed food. ” India will need rich human capital of highly qualified, motivated, and well trained agricultural scientists to meet these challenges of 21st century.

It is the responsibility of the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) to provide such human resources” he said. N.S Rathore, Dy Director General of the Indian Council forAgriculture Research, New Delhi pointed out the challenges before agricultural universities such as budget and staff shortage etc. Addrssing the gathering, K.M Bujarbaruah, President of the Indian Agricultural Universities Association (IAUA) said all over the world, significant changes have been witnessed in the  agriculture sector in terms of food production, mechanisation, précised application, management of natural resources and faster dissemination of agricultural technologies. However, there are certain issues in the agricultural sector which need continuous updation as per the need of increasing populationand changing ecosystems. ” This makes it essential to bring changes in attitude, technology, applications of knowledge in agricultural systems of the country. To debate the above issues and challenges, IAUA is organizing this convention” he added.
